Mamiya Scans.

A few of you have asked to see some Mamiya RZ67 scans. Here are a couple from the Until June shoot we recently did. It definitely has a different feel than the digital captures. I usually shoot many formats, films and cameras on any given shoot. Each with their own character. Enjoy the day!

Where do you get your film scanned? The colors are interesting in these. What film stock and kind of light were you using?

  2. Trever says:

    Hi Brandon,
I get my film developed at Richard’s and Samy’s camera. Just depends how much time I have. I was using Kodak 400 VC. The light is a mix of a natural light from a window and a soft box set to model light just to give some warmth to the skin tones.

  3. Brandon Wright says:

Cool. I use Richard as well. Actually we have our own Fuji Frontier we do most of our own scanning on but when we get backed up we use Richard. I’ve noticed your recent film work and think it’s great! Still totally you. One thing I would suggest on the next roll you shoot would be to try adding one to two stops to the exposure. Negative film LOVES to be overexposed! I always expose for the darkest light on my subject letting the highlights fall where they may. And in soft light I usually open up an extra stop to get better tonal separation. Try it out… I think you’ll love it!

    Brandon,
that’s awesome you guys scan your own! That’s amazing. I’ll definately try the couple stops up. Sounds fun. Love your work… I actually have followed your stuff for a while. You guys have shot and known Chip and Nick for years right?

  5. Brandon Wright says:

Yeah! Chip & Nick are great! Love their family! Saw the photos you did of Nick and Julie. Loves the ones on the scooter. That’s how I found you I think… Can’t remember. My wife knows you from college too… Went to Cal Baptist at the same time I think? Love checking in on your Blog. You’re always doing something new, and I like it! ;) I’m in LA right now. Send me a email if you ever want to get together and talk photo stuff or whatever.

Thanks for posting some Mamiya shots! These are particulary interesting since there are digital captures to directly compare with.
